JEDDAH STORM WATER DRAINAGE PROGRAM

STORM WATER DRAINAGE SYSTEM

?

The Government of Makkah has made a move to mitigate the catastrophic effect of the flood due to Stormwater that the City of Jeddah has experienced in the past years.

?

This Mega project was conceived to control and direct the stormwwater towards the sea. The whole project consists of 8 Packages with 5 Dams and 3 Channels/Drainage and outfalls.

?

This Package 8 known as the Airport Outfall is the biggest and most challenging of the 8 packages considering the 18 months duration and the challenging of dealing with huge underground water and existing underground Utilities.

?

The New Drainage system runs at a stretch of 36 kilometers from southeast to northwest of the City of Jeddah diving at a head of 27 meters from the highest point. Traversing 3 major highways of Jeddah to main arterial roads and Residential streets towards the scenic Corniche and Obhur along the Red Sea, It involves protecting and diverting hundreds of parallel or crossing existing utilities from High voltage electrical cables, pressurized waterlines, telecom lines. airport fuel lines and several ARAMCO pipelines.

?

The most herculean challenge of this project is the dewatering required to reach the formation level in order to build the Manholes and Junction Boxes most of them are 8 ?to 10 meters below grade level and to dry the stretch for pipe laying. With the un0imaginable ground permeability which requires 40 muscular pumps for each 100m trench especially manufactured for this project capable of discharging 700m3/hr. of water each pump. The total amount of water evacuated from the trench is forecasted to reach up to 90 million cubic meters. In order to convey this water to proper discharge line approximately 60 kilometers of total length.

?

Key Features of the Project

?

??Procurement and installation of 56,000 lineal meters of FRP Pipes from Dammam and Jeddah.

? Construction of 3 - Sea Outfall

? Tunneling of 3000 mm ID pipe 270 m long
